The PTSO has several committees to help support the mission of the organization. Each committee has specific responsibilities, which are outlined below. The first order of business for each committee is to elect a chairperson to represent the group at monthly Executive Board meetings of the PTSO. Committees are open to parents, students and teachers.
Newsletter Committee
This committee researches and provides school information to parents on a quarterly basis in the PTSO newsletter. News from Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School, the school system, the school board and other educational information will be included.
Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for increasing the PTSO membership, collecting annual dues, maintaining an updated list of current members and soliciting new members from various school events.
Fundraising Committee
This committee is responsible for increasing the funds of the PTSO through various events at the school. Activities may include assisting with the school store, generating contest ideas, etc. This group must comply with all school system administrative rules pertaining to Fundraising and report activity to the principal.
Communication Committee
This committee is responsible for the content of the website, community outreach, and collecting information on school events. This group is responsible for monitoring and providing updates on School Board activity for both the PTSO. They would also provide these updates to the Newsletter Committee.
Teacher Issues Committee
This committee is responsible for identifying and assisting with resolving teacher classroom issues. Issues such as, homework, long term subs, safety, etc. This committee may testify before the School Board or work with other legislators to resolve issues or bring attention to continuing problems.
Student Government Association (SGA) Liaison
This committee will assist the Teacher Sponsor the SGA with activity planning, leadership training and student advocacy. Members of this committee may need to be available during school hours sometimes.
Business Partnerships
This committee works with the School Parent Liaison to develop meaningful partnerships with local businesses and government to assist the school with enhancing the educational experience of our students.
